Back in the 80'ies three former fellow-students gathered and realized that they individually had had the same interest,- namely the wonderful wines of the world.
They decided to meet on a regular basis with the purpose of enjoying culinaric specialities and selected wines.
The foundation or the Club Cru Classé, as they named it, was a reality (the three C's identifying the founders).
Due to a large network of the founders, the Club Cru Classé was growing rapidly in terms of members throughout Europe and in 1989, it was decided to stop for additional applications for active membership. In 1994 Club Cru Classé was reconstructed with 3 divisions, located in London - UK, Ketcskemet - Hungary and Copenhagen - Denmark , the latter being H.O.
The goal has changed in time, as we today due to space-restrictions are forced to rent the space necessary for wine-tasting,- except when a tasting is conducted in cooperation with a wine-merchant or Château,- however the general purpose is to broaden the knowledge and respect of wine, through the means of interexchange of experience and tastings.
Focus is especially set on old and rare wines and among the members are several individuals including the Chairman of the Board, who conducts speeches and tastings at wine-seminars / wine-associations and also performs evaluations
of cellars and assistance under international wine-auctions.
In 1987 Club Cru Classé was the first (and still the only ) wine-association who introduced a computerprograme that among other details, was capable of predetecting a possible vintage-year on Port , and it also has a vintage-file dating back to the year of 1700.
In 1994 Club Cru Classé arranged for SMS (Short Message Service) via the GSM-net, regarding news on wine, such as
upcoming tastings, auctions, "best buy of the month" etc.
